Buzz! Brain of the UK has now released for the PS3 and at a budget price, but is this title different enough from the original to warrant existing players splashing out their cash?
There is no doubt that the Playstation Brand has some rather unique titles in it’s line up and Buzz is certainly one of these. Outside of Singstar, Buzz is probably the systems second most played social title, so you can’t really blame Sony for taking advantage of this fact with their latest addition to the franchise. Buzz! Brain of the UK takes the Singstar route in that it is basically the same game as the original but with enough additional content to warrant a new disc.
For anyone who has not played Buzz before you may want to check out our Buzz! Quiz TV review as this will give you our detailed overview the game. In a nutshell though, you can either play through the game in single player, where you are racing against the clock in order maximise your score, multiplayer where you play against members of your friends for bragging rights or online, where you can take on the world and prove you are the master of all things quiz. Another great feature is the ability to make up your own quizzes and also play other peoples, which obviously give you a never ending stream of questions.
So what’s different about Buzz! Brain of the UK when compared to Quiz TV? Well the answer is not a great deal. The main theme of the game has been tweaked, so now when the opening sequence appears Buzz can be found in his apartment, with Big Ben clearly and a few other famous British landmarks visible from his window, also once you actually get into the main quiz, the British theme is very prominent, with flags for each of the home nations spread throughout the studio and Buzz himself dressed in a union jack suit. Buzz also seems to have a few new pieces of dialogue and the humour is still there too, especially when he tries on his Scottish and Irish accents.
![]() Apart from the visual presentation, the questions are also different, and with thousands of question pack onto the disc, this could be a deciding factor for anyone who has worn out the questions on the previous disc, especially if they do not have online access, as those that do can at least download new question packs from the store. Of course most of the questions do have a rather British theme to them, which was evident to me when I finally got the gold trophy for scoring 5000 points in the single player mode, something which to this date I’ve still not managed in Quiz TV.
So is this game worth getting if you are currently an owner of Quiz TV? Well that depends if you still play it, if you are a big fan of the game and have worn the questions out then at around £17.99 this game is great value, especially when you consider it comes packed with thousands of new questions. Likewise if you have never played the game before then Brain of the UK would be just as good a place to start as Quiz TV since the backbone of both games is identical anyway.
In our summary of Buzz! Quiz TV we concluded that it was a well presented and fun game that would appeal to fans of these types of social games and the same therefore goes for Buzz! Brain of the UK.
