Just when you thought the controls for a Wii game couldn’t get any more innovative, or weirder for that matter, along comes another game which changes the rules. This time it’s SEGA’s turn to innovate, using the vibration of the Wii Remote and a cardboard box. Interesting Eh?
Let’s Tap, which is the name of this new craze, sees each player place their Wii remote upside down on a cardboard box (which can be bought with the game) and tap away, with the vibration of your movements doing the rest and that’s it really, simple and also very effective.
![]() The amazing thing about this game is that the controls actually work extremely well and it’s also incredibly simple. The most impressive part about the controls is the way they register how hard you are tapping, meaning that the game will know the difference between you tapping lightly or hard.
The game has five modes to play through, including Tap Runner, which sees you running through a course, racing against either the computer or against friends while trying to overcome various obstacles, such as hurdles, moving platforms or even blowing up baloons. To run in this mode you lightly tap the box with both hands, then to jump you just tap harder, the strength of your tap is then adjusted for the various situations you find yourself in. The other modes include Rhythm Tap, which is a bit like Guitar Hero in that you try to hit the various notes except here you are tapping along to the rhythm, then there is Silent Blocks, where you need to knock pieces from a tower of blocks. Another fun mode is Bubble Voyager which sees you take control of a spaceman whom you move by tapping, the object here is to survive as long as possible using your flying ability and your rockets, which are activated by double tapping. The final mode is Visuallzer which allows you to tap along and watch how the patterns react depending on your rhythm, this is mode is good fun, especially when you get to play with the fireworks.
These modes are all great fun to play and even better with friends, take Silent Blocks for example, this is great when playing on your own, however when playing with friends it’s even better. When playing with friends you can play in two ways, you either both take turns to pull out a block with the aim of not knocking the tower over, or you can play alchemy mode, which sees you both racing to pull out blocks in order to match the different colours and in turn form special tiles which when combined allow you to reach the goal. The Silent Blocks mode was most definitely my favorite when playing with friends, although the Tap Runner mode is also great fun.
Another of Let’s Tap’s charms is its graphics, the whole game has a colorful neon glow to it which fits in perfectly with the style of the game. It also runs very smoothly and there are none of the problems that you would normally associate with the Wii. The sound is also another area where the game is strong, the music has a very upbeat tempo and fits right in with the on screen action.
![]() To be honest with you when Let’s Tap came through the door I was not convinced that I was going to like it at all, however as it turns out this is perhaps one of the most fun, unique and innovative games that graces the Wii. I would highly recommend this title to anyone who is looking for a fun multiplayer game to keep them, their friends and family entertained.
