DROPLITZ
We review Droplitz for Xbox Live Arcade.

Posted by Joe Anderson on Jul 11, 2009 07:59 (253 days ago)

Xbox Live is certainly not short on puzzle games, however that has not stopped developers from making more, so now it’s the turn of Droplitz to try its luck on the service, but what does this game bring that the others don’t?

Anyone who has played Bioshock will probably be right at home with Droplitz given that it is quite similar to the mini hacking game that was included in the blockbuster hit. The aim of the game is to create a path in order to allow your Droplitz to have a way through to the bottom where you can collect them, this is done by turning each of the pipes on the screen in order to connect them to each other. The tricky part is that each time you lose a drop your supply will get lower, meaning that if you don’t get moving fast you will soon run out and it will be game over. Thankfully by scoring combos and creating paths you do get more drops to play with, so at least it’s balanced.

The main purpose of saving your drops and rotating all of these pipes is of course to get as high a score as possible (as is the case with any puzzle style game), and obviously the more combos you create and the more drops you save the better you will do in this area.

Droplitz includes a few modes of play to keep you entertained, though the Classic mode is probably where you will spend most of your time. This mode consists of nine boards, each of which varies in difficulty. Other modes in the game include Zendurance, Power Up and Infection, though these are only unlocked by reaching the conditions set by the game.

Unfortunately Droplitz does not include any multiplayer game of any sort, although to be fair it is quite addictive enough without one.

Presentation-wise Droplitz is a very colorful and pleasing to the eye game, its backgrounds have some excellent artwork which are complimented by the very mellow music. If you are looking for a game which helps you relax and pass the time then you may just have found it in Droplitz.

Droplitz is yet another quality addition to Xbox Live Arcades growing list of puzzle games, it’s different enough to stand out from the crowd and it certainly has enough about it to stand the test of time.
