G-Force the game is now here, which was probably to be expected since G-Force the movie was recently released but do we care? The developers are certainly no strangers to the field since they recently released another game based on an animated movie in Ice Age 3, but does G-Force play as well as that game did?
In G-Force you play as Darwin, a Guinea Pig who has been trained in espionage by the US Government and is on a mission to stop the evil billionaire Leonard Saber from destroying the world with his army of household appliances.
When the game begins you are dropped into Saber’s headquarters, from here you need to sneak your way inside and then this is when the action begins. As a game G-Force takes a third-person or should that be third guinea pig view, throughout you will control Darwin and in order to complete your missions you have the usual espionage type equipment such as a hoverpack, which is strapped to your back, the Saberlizer and various weapons such as his Plasma Gun, Cluster Rifle and Electro Whip, however perhaps the most useful weapon of all is the Nanohacker, as this allows you to turn those nasty and evil household appliances into you allies, take that Mr Saber.
![]() A lot of the time you will not be able to progress further past some of the puzzles without the help of Mooch, this little guy is basically a fly who you can control, he is very useful as you can use him to fly through small spaces and he can even slow time, which is useful for getting through vents that have fast moving fans. Mooch is a very useful ally to have on your side, especially when combined with your Saberlizer, which is perhaps one of you most used pieces of equipment as it allows you to scan the environment for information and also any weaknesses that there may be.
Controlling both Darwin and Mooch is good fun, Darwin especially is a joy to play thanks to his ability to hover and double jump, parts I particularly enjoyed included trying to be stealthy by hovering from one platform to another without being detected. When the two characters combine you can usually use them to get past most of the game challenges, with Mooch being used to take care of the traps by deactivating them or collect things and Darwin's blasting those pesky and evil appliances.
Throughout the game you will take down many an enemy who will drop items for you to make use of, these include ammo, health and Sabersense chips which are the games currency. The currency you collect can be used to upgrade weapons at certain points in the game, so it is obviously important that you try to collect as many of these as possible.
Now G-Force is aimed at a younger audience so it may not keep you quite as gripped as it will your kids, in fact I got my little one to try it out and even he became uninterested after a while just because the levels seemed to drag on a bit, and this is a boy who has completed quite a few of these types of games, such as Ice Age 3 and Shrek 2 which are just some of the games in his completed portfolio.
G-Force comes with the added bonus in that it is one of the first games to support 3D. When you open the case you will be greeted with two sets of 3D glasses, then when in game you just need to turn on the filter and hey presto sore eyes and washed out colours await. Yes unfortunately this option is rather poor and having recently witnessed 3D done properly in the shape of the upcoming XBLA/PSN game Invincible Tiger: The Legend of Han Tao, I have to say I was disappointed, although to be fair that game was using a 3DTV.
![]() G-Force is certainly straightforward to play and is fun in parts, however it just doesn't seem to have the same appeal as other animated film based games such as Ice Age, which at least offers some variety to the levels, something which G-Force really fails to do in the same way.
Overall G-Force is a decent game, which fans of the film will probably enjoy, however there are better titles out there if you are in the market for a game for your younger siblings and aren’t too bothered which movie it is based on.
