MYSIMS AGENT
We review MySims Agent for Nintendo Wii.

Posted by Dan Pearson on Oct 2, 2009 18:08 (169 days ago)

The MySims games have tried everything from racing, minigame compendiums and of course a simplified Sims clone and whilst reasonable games they have not rocked the boat, so from these steady releases of the MySims franchise comes a very original and surprise hit from EA.

MySims Agent is based on a detective and his artist pal called Buddy who draws about his adventures. You start off as a local town wannabe private detective trying to solve a case involving a dog-napping and trying to find out who the real owner of the dog is. Your detective skills are then noticed by a local special agent and before you know it you are given a job in the Sim Protection Agency, tasked with trying to solve what the evil Morcubus is up to in town whilst helping out the townsfolk.

The main game hub is your multi-floored headquarters, here you have a team readily available to help you. You are also able to hire new agents who will deal with some of the more menial tasks and will occasionally call you to ask for assistance in cases. In the headquarters you can make phone calls to other team members, customize the decor with items unlocked and also alter your appearance to keep the baddies second guessing.

Quests appear in the way of an exclamation mark over the locals heads, just walk up and have a chat and they will tell you of their woes and then it's up to you to help them out and solve the case. The cases are able to be solved in numerous ways, an example of this is when a hairdresser gets a mysterious love note, with three possible people involved you start by interviewing the suspects and examining their abodes, the story then splits allowing you to either climb over roofs to find a tool box or break into safes to find out who sent the package. All the equipment necessary is easily to hand and very simple to use. A magnifying glass will help you follow leads on the floor, a crowbar can be used to break open items and there is also a wrench to repair items. You will even obtain upgrades later in the game, allowing you to send samples via a mobile phone and grab and move blocks around with a grabber to reach higher platforms.

Most quests involve you trying to find something and talking to townsfolk but there are a few mini games dotted around like rebuilding a pizza oven by changing the internal cogs and drive belts and a line tracing game to hack computers. If you ever get stuck there is always the casebook that is located in the top right of the screen, click this and you will be shown what you have found so far plus a little hint as to what to do or who to speak to next.

Though this is a game aimed at children it is something that parents can really enjoy playing with the kids as it gets everyone thinking about possible solutions and also has a few moral pointers. I would also suggest that older players pick up this title as even though it is childlike in presentation, the gameplay is a fun mix of point and click adventure with a little platforming thrown in for good measure.

The game is surprisingly large and grows with each quest, once the train station and jet have been unlocked, more areas are located for you to visit, making for more complex cases to solve, though you are mainly focused on your local town, it never gets repetitive.

The overall presentation of the game really works well on the Wii, with it's colorful and cartoon like characters, a simple secret agent themed soundtrack and of course the mad sounding simlish language, which after playing so many of these games I am now fluent in.

MySims Agents is a refreshing change for the Wii and is a must for young families looking for something a little more challenging.
