With cortex expanding games being the current hot sellers on the DS, Blitz Arcade follow suit and bring us a rather belated "brain training" type of game with a twist.
Professor Ivor Question invites you to pit your wits against his brain numbing tests and hopefully improve your grey matter in the process. The game is split into two areas, a brain training test and a quiz show. The brain training has the Professor select random events and all you need to do is get as many out of five right on each level and at the end your cleverness is marked on a graph. You then have to revisit the game every day to see if your brain power is increasing or in my case decreasing.
The quiz has a bit more longevity with you playing against an opponent trying to answer fast and correctly and win overall to open up more opponents. The first few characters are a doddle but as you unlock more they get a lot brainier and faster. With each win you earn noodles which you can then use to purchase new mascots. There are 60 mascots in total to unlock, most can be purchased by winning games but a few require you to perform certain tasks like play between midnight and 6am.
![]() Encleverment Experiment has 16 events in total with each one supposed to test and train certain brain functions. The levels themselves are quite basic but are well drawn and colourful in presentation.
Pie-eyed tests your basic fractions, a part of a pastry pie is shown with a sum and four answers underneath to fill in the gaps, you just answer with the corresponding face button. Teleporter Troubles is a recollection game where you are shown a face, it's taken away and then you have to pick them from a crowd of similar faces. There are similar levels to this like a level where the Professor Ivor will walk along with a flashlight highlighting items which make a noise, you then need to remember what colour light made what noise and in what order and Partial Recall where the Professor shows what he is thinking for a short while, takes them away and then asks you questions. Thankfully not all are the same with a level with aliens targeting different colours, once locked-on just press the same coloured face button quickly and Cognitive Therapy where you select a cog to fill in a gap and make a whole set of cogs move.
I could have listed all 16 levels but doing so was becoming depressing, I feel this game has made me stupider rather than more intelligent. The Encleverment Experiment had absolutely no pull or connection with me other than intense frustration and very simple game design.
The games target audience is also a little confusing with the level design being very childlike but with a crippling difficulty, there are even some puzzles that seem to have no logical solution with just fast fingered guesses to see if I got lucky winning the round. The main culprit is Semi-vinyls, you are shown four broken records but only one makes a whole. The opponent is so fast that even after taking time to study the record it still ends up a guess. If you want a go please try the demo first but as a whole, avoid this title.
