TOP PLAYSTATION GAMES FOR XMAS.
Our guide to the essential Playstation games this Xmas.

Posted by Joe Anderson on Dec 6, 2009 19:11 (103 days ago)

Yes it’s that time of year again where kids pester their parents for games and kids have to choose what game to spend their Xmas money on. With so much choice in the world of Playstation it can be a hard to decide which games to pick up, however that’s were we come in, after all we have reviewed practically every game this year and like to think we know the good from the bad.

So without further ado we introduce our:

Top Playstation Games for Xmas: A Guide for PSP/PS3 and PSN

PSP

The Playstation Portable has seen resurgence of late with some quality title, below are our top picks for Xmas.

LittleBigPlanet (Review)

LittleBigPlanet on the PSP is a excellent title, with all new levels, the ability to create and upload your own levels and also the option to download and play others. The presentation is also top notch, with practically all of the detail from the original making an appearance. Studio Cambridge have done a great job in bringing this title to the PSP and it’s one that every owner of the handheld shouldn’t be without.

Pixeljunk Monsters Deluxe (Review)

The handheld version of Pixeljunk Monsters is actually better value than the PS3 version, managing to pack in the Standard and Encore versions of the game as well as a local and online multiplayer mode. It has all the gameplay and looks of the PSN title making this yet another title that PSP owners should not let pass by.

Blast Off (Review)

It may be a PSP Mini but this title is one highly addictive game. The main premise is to rescue spacemen in order to open a portal for escape, however the gravitational pull of planets and black holes is soon introduced making this one of the most fun and challenging games on the service.

Gran Turismo (Review)

Love it or Hate it Gran Turismo is one of the most realistic racers around and the PSP version is no exception. Packing in a huge amount of cars which you will eventually be able to transfer to Gran Turismo 5, this is title that no petrol head should be without.

God of War Chains of Olympus (Review)

It may have been out for over a year but if you have not played this game you seriously don’t deserve to own your PSP. This title which follows the story of Kratos as he tries to save the world from certain destruction is now available via the Playstation Store and is a must have title.

PS3

There are certainly no shortage of excellent PS3 games around at the moment, so below we have broken them up providing our pick of the best from both Blu-Ray releases and PSN titles.

Uncharted 2: Amongst Thieves (Review)

Without a doubt the most high profile and best PS3 game on the market today. This really is a title that every PS3 fan should own. Its presentation is second to none, offering a mix of cinematic visuals, high drama and some of the best acting you will even witness in a game. Add to this the new multiplayer modes and you really are onto a winner.

Assassins Creed II (Review)

While the first title was met with mixed reviews there is no doubting the credentials of the sequel. Nearly everything that was done wrong in the first title has been rectified and improved upon, making this a very desirable title to consider.

FIFA 10 (Review)

Sorry Pro Evo fans but there isn’t another football title out there that can touch EA Sports effort, from the presentation to the sheer amount of options to the on field action, nothing comes near the authenticity of FIFA 10. This is Football.

Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time (Review)

Yes its more of the same, but who cares? A Crack in Time still offers some of the best weapons and most fun platforming around and I’m all for that. You don’t fix what’s not broken after all, do you?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Review)

Yes it may have been obvious that we were going to include this game, however it’s last for a reason. Sure it offers some of the most intense multiplayer gaming around, so if that’s what your after then this is a must buy. If however you are after an immersive single player mode which will last you throughout Xmas then it’s probably best to look elsewhere.

PSN

Blu-Ray isn’t the only way to get a gaming fix thanks to the Playstation Store. So for those of you on a budget, here are our top picks for Xmas.

Pixeljunk Shooter (Review)

Without a doubt our game of the moment, Pixeljunk Shooter brings everything that’s great about the series to the Shoot Em Up Arena. Taking control of your ship you are tasked with saving the miners in some of the most colourful and inventive levels you will ever see. This isn’t only a must have PSN title, it’s THE must have game on any platform for December.

Gravity Crash (Review)

Ok so how many budget titles let you make your own levels, play others and also let to experience some of the most polished retro style graphics around? None that’s how many, which is why Gravity Crash is one of our favourite titles on the Playstation Network. Its levels get increasingly difficult as you progress but you will remain hooked to this addictive retro style title throughout.

Critter Crunch (Review)

Sure there are plenty of puzzle games out there, however none are quite like Critter Crunch for both presentation and the sheer addictive nature of the game. Throughout the game you will be met with new challenges which will have your reflexes and patience tested to the full. This really is one the most unique and addictive titles on the Playstation Network and it’s one everyone should own.

Summary

Obviously there are a lot more titles that we could have mentioned in any of the sections above, Borderlands and our recently received God of War collection are two that immediately spring to mind, but what are your top titles for this Xmas? We would love to know.

Look out for our top Xbox 360 and Nintendo titles soon.
