STAND O FOOD
We review PSP Mini, Stand O Food. Read our thoughts.

Its hard work running a fast food restaurant, that’s if the latest PSP Mini to hit the Playstation Store is anything to go by. Whether you are playing this title on the PSP or as one of the first compatible titles on the PS3, you are going to be hooked and will probably have a greater appreciation for making burgers by the time you finally manage to drag yourself away from the screen.

Stand O Food is split into various sections, the first is a tutorial mode which takes you through the basic steps of serving customers, keeping them happy and earning bonuses. This tutorial mode also teaches you how to use bonus items such as burger wrapping, plates, the jukebox and the sauces, all of which help to keep things running smoothly and help you increase your profit at the same time.

Once you pass the tutorial mode you then have a choice of playing either Meal Quest or Lunch Rush. Meal Quest is the main adventure mode, taking you all over the city to run various fast food restaurants. The map is split into nine locations, each of which have numerous restaurants, once you have completed one area you will move onto the next, with the challenge of serving the customers becoming increasingly more difficult.

When you first start off you are serving customers basic burgers, this is done by selecting the various parts in the correct order before handing the order over to the customer, this is quite easy at first as the buns and burgers usually come out in the correct order, however as you progress and the queues of customers build up things tend to get a bit more difficult, with the food coming out faster and the orders becoming increasingly more complex.

To help you cope with the complex orders and the random nature of how the food comes out, you have a few tools such as the burger wrapping, plates and a jukebox. The wrapping simply allows you to place the ingredients in any order before wrapping it up and handing it over to the customer. The plates meanwhile allow you to place one of the ingredients down on the plate to enable you to get them in the correct order. You can buy more wrappers, plates and other equipment from the shop once you reach the end of the level. It is wise to stock up on things like plates and wrappers as these become essential the further you progress.

Other items in the store include things like the jukebox which allows you to play music to keep the people in the queue happy, while there is also a fan which does the same trick. Purchasing sauce meanwhile allows you to make the customers burgers tastier and therefore increase your profit further. There are all manner of items in the shop, which increase in price and effectiveness as you progress, therefore it’s definitely worth checking these out.

The Lunch Rush mode is a more accessible way of playing if you are just after a quick game. This is basically a survival mode where you keep playing and trying to serve as many customers as possible. Like the Meal Quest mode orders will get more complex the longer you play. You also still have access to the shop in this mode, meaning you can purchase some items there to give yourself a helping hand.

The presentation in Stand O Food is fairly decent for a PSP Mini game. The colours are bright and the action runs smoothly. The game is obviously best played on the PSP from a looks point of view, however it does also run perfectly well on the PS3, it’s just a little more distorted if played in this way.

Stand O Food is a fairly basic, but addictive game. It does get quite challenging the longer you play and there is a surprising amount of levels to play through considering the games fairly small download size. This is a definitely one of the better PSP Mini games, especially if you enjoy the puzzle genre.
