What can I say, this game is just awesome.

The story mode is brilliant especially on Veteran it just brings the game alive! It is the most realistic World War II shooter ever and will still be
great for years to come. As soon as I began playing the Russian missions I found myself immersed in the game. The sound and visuals give a very convincing and realistic feel to the game. Why don't history teachers just let us play this in our lessons, I would learn a lot more about the War!

Every one of the missions are action packed and so far I haven't been let down by the single player side of things. I recommend that you play the game on veteran as it is a lot more tactical, one wrong move and you could easily be gunned down but it is a lot better than literally skipping past an enemy tank on easy mode! You can sometimes find yourself being killed 20 or more times on particular veteran missions, but once you do get to the rally point there is a real sense of achievement. The missions are varied, whether the objective is to storm an enemy village, defend against a German counter attack or take out an enemy tank you will always have to use special tactics to get out of a situation and move that little bit closer to your goal.

The achievements are very generous with 60 points per mission, but you do have to complete them on veteran which is harder than you might think, but very rewarding once you've battled your way through the various settings of this game. So far I have done all of the Russian missions and about half of the British campaign. I have yet to attempt the D-DAY mission and the other American ones which should be interesting.

Forget about Perfect Dark as the best shooter for the 360, COD 2 is a far superior game. It is the best launch game for the 360 so it is a MUST BUY!!!
In my opinion the graphics are brilliant, and will be even better when I get my VGA cable! Some Xbox 360 games have been let down by their 'shininess' where the textures look like they have been covered by cling-film but COD2 has achieved graphics that, to me look almost real!

The only down side to the game is the Online game play, some of the games I have been on have been so laggy that they are unplayable. But a new patch has been released that has pretty much solved this problem but you still get the odd lagfest occasionally. As long as you find a good UK server you should be absolutely fine. Another problem that has been fixed by the patch is the 'save game bug' unfortunately this is a little late for me when I lost some of the Russia saves, now I have no evidence to back up my achievements.

Call Of Duty 2

The definition of Intensity......

...... is Call of Duty 2, this game makes Medal of Honour and Brothers in Arms look like a tea party.

Gameplay - The game begins with a brief training session which is cleverly interwoven with the Russian campaign, after a couple of minutes you are thrown right into full on combat against the Germans. the Russian portion is pretty intense, the British even more so, but once you make it to D-Day with the Americans, boy it kicks off, and the carnage keeps on getting upped a notch to the bitter end, Hill 400 has to be seen to be believed it is unbelievable, amazing. The multiplayer is good, but nothing special, as it’s limited to 8 players and about 2 of every 4 or 5 games are laggy, the best game on Xbox Live is still Halo 2 in my opinion. The controls are very well done in CoD2, excellently mapped to the 360 controller, the only things that are missing is "lean" which is in the PC version, and I would like the option to throw grenades back at enemies as they and your friendly AI soldiers can, and lastly the game needs blood and gore, i.e. a grenade should blow limbs off, bullet holes should be seen and blood should not disappear. The game has 4 difficulty settings, I have completed it/ played through it once on the 3rd setting - Hardened, and it wasn’t too easy, wasn’t impossible, it just gave me a challenge.

Graphics - It looks very nice, but I wouldn't go so far as to say amazing, it looks nearly next gem, but not quite, but that is because it was also developed for PC, and the 360 been a new system obviously has overtaken PC graphics cards.....for now. Everything looks great though, from the lighting, to weapons, to smoke. One of my few gripes though is when soldiers are killed by grenades the rag doll effects are a bit OTT.

Sound - WOW, the audio is even more hard hitting than the gameplay, just listen to the mortars landing in the background, or the rattle of the MG42, exceptional. The voice acting is also great, as are vehicle sounds.

This without a doubt is one of the best WW2 FPS's ever created, the intensity and realism is unparalleled in a video game, the multiplayer needs work to resemble the its PC counterpart but apart form that one hell of an achievement.

Call of Duty 2

Well here we are with a next-gen console and one of it’s launch titles. Having never owned an Xbox and being a playstation fan I decided to use call of duty 2 as a gentle introduction into Microsoft's world.

As a fan of “run and gun” first person shooters I wasn’t sure how I would get on with a game that required a bit more tactics, especially as I wasn’t a fan of the original playstation call of duty.

Graphics

For a first generation title this is very impressive even in standard definition and I can honestly say this is one of the few games where I have actually felt immersed in what is going on around me. The action pelts along at a good rate, only slowing a tiny bit when there is a lot of smoke effects on screen. The areas you have to explore are varied enough to not appear repetitive and the models for weapons, characters, etc are suitably detailed.

Sound

Bang’s, bang’s and more bang’s! The sound effects are suited perfectly to the situation and help immerse you in the game with large explosions, chattering machine gun fire, team mates shouting, planes flying overhead and tanks driving past, it really does feel like you are there!

Lastability

Here’s where call of duty 2 scores big points for me. Having to think tacitly about a situation rather than just running in all guns blazing has meant that levels have taken me a while to accomplish especially on the hardest difficulty setting. The online mode does have it’s problems, games can sometimes be laggy, but a patch is supposedly on the way and I find it doesn’t happen that often.. Online features a variety of different modes all of which mean call of duty 2 will still be getting played months after it’s release.

Overall

Call of duty 2 does have its flaws, for example sometimes your team mates can run in front of that perfect shot causing you to have to go back to the last checkpoint for friendly fire, but overall it is a enjoyable way of wasting the hours away. Anyone who doesn’t already have it, GO AND BUY IT!
