“Burnout with guns” kind of sums up how
the magazines touted this game, don’t believe the hype. This is different,
Very different infact. The intro movie is well ..eh?! to say the least. The
option screen though is very simple and easy to navigate and all in all does
it’s purpose.
At the beginning of each race you are
given a number of objectives to reach to obtain particular medals. i.e. semi
and full auto medals. These are displayed very well and easy to read.
Basic analogue race controls, right
trigger accelerate, left for brake. Basic race buttons along with a boost,
primary and secondary weapon button too. Also the main selling feature of the
game: Unwreck button, being able to rewind time to retry a section you just
crashed on, Superb and very useful too. All in all, inventive and has set a
standard in destructive racing titles.
Very pretty to look at, indeed, the
crash damage is superb as is the weapon damage. One thing a few people will
notice is consistent frame-rate drops. This is something which has been
complained about by many people on the net. But although it is noticeable it
isn’t as bad as it is made out to be. A lot of people expect perfection fro
the off with a new console. But you can still blatantly see the effort put
into this game.
(In the voice of Tim Allen) oh oh. One
of the things I really liked about full auto was the sheer grandness of the
sound: the nastiness of the machine gun bullets ripping through the metal
in-front of you, the sound of buildings/tankers and signs blowing up from the
rocket you’ve just projected through them. Superb. To look away from the
screen and just listen: sheer carnage on a huge level. Excellent
I spent a week playing the career mode.
And got to 73% of the way through it, Xbox live is fantastic for this game.
Very enjoyable online experience and the single player mode is also very
enjoyable.
The only problem with the Xbox 360
titles is the price-tag. Fantastic game bad price, definitely a game to pick
up second hand. I’m looking forward to the sequel as this looks like the start
of another great games franchise.
