Fancy something a bit different when it comes to football? then read our FIFA review for the Wii, you are sure to be surprised.

With the football season well and truly on its way, EA have now released their yearly update of the FIFA franchise, however as the Wii couldn’t possible replicate the graphically prowess of the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, EA have decided to take a completely different route with the game for the this console.> >

The most obvious differences are the graphics and controls. Whilst the graphics are good for the Wii, they don’t come close to the other versions. The controls have been completely revamped to make the best use of the original setup of the Wii. There are two settings, Family and Advanced. Family control uses only the Wii-mote, the computer controls the players and you are responsible for shooting and passing, advanced controls also use the Nunchuck and with this you control the players which allows for more complex moves. To shoot at goal all you do is swing the Wii-mote up, the faster the swing, the more powerful the kick, swing down whilst on the defence and you will perform a sliding tackle. Also worth a note is throw-ins, where you hold both controllers above your head and throw like you would a real football, just make sure you have your Wii-mote strap on.

The Wii version seems to be a more family affair than the hardcore PS3 and 360 versions. This is a welcome approach as it brings more players to the game, having played with people with no previous FIFA experience, they put in a great game and really enjoyed it, I feel that on the other versions it would of been a rather one sided affair, with a lot of sulking. >>

The main game has you competing in tournaments from all over the world, you just pick your team and play through to the finals. The more you play the more game points you will earn and the more you earn, the more extras you can unlock, like new stadiums, alternative costumes and new footballs. >>

There are also game challenges, were you play in a classic match and you have to complete certain criteria, for example win a game by a certain amount of goals or ensure that your team wins in a certain time. >>

The Wii version also offers Footy Party with Ronaldinho, this includes games such as Table Football, were you use the Wii-mote to turn the handles and the Nunchuck to move the players up and down, Juggling were you shake the Wii-mote in time to the on-screen icons and keep the ball in the air, and finally Beat It, were you have to swing the Wii-mote to score goals past a Mii version of Ronaldinho.>>
