TOMB RAIDER: ANNIVERSARY
Lara Croft and the PSP, a perfect match? read our review and find out.

Lara Croft has always been the sort of woman that many gamers would like to have by their side to liven up their day, so to all those gamers out there, you will be pleased to know you can now do this, thanks to the PSP version of Tomb Raider: Anniversary.>>

>

This version of Tomb Raider: Anniversary is actually a port of the PS2 version and a perfect one at that. Anyone who loves Tomb Raider will love this game, everything just looks and feels so good from Lara scaling around ledges with her fingertip to her trying to jump from one rock to another without falling into the bear pit below, getting around in this game is just so easy and this is one of the reasons that it is the perfect game for the PSP.

There is quite a variety of levels in the game which are pleasing to the eye and there are also plenty of hazardous environments along the way such as snow, water and jungle, best of all though is the fact that the gameplay is as great as ever, the puzzles keep you scratching your head and the various enemies such as wolves, bears and mummies will certainly keep you on your toes.

Combat is a fairly simple affair and not too difficult, however there is a new addition called Adrenaline Dodge which livens things up in this department, this new move takes place when an enemy becomes enraged and charges at Lara, at this point Lara’s Adrenaline then kicks in and she is given the opportunity to dodge, this is done by pressing the circle button and a direction on the analog stick, if this is done correctly then Lara goes into a Matrix style slow motion and is then given the opportunity to attack her enemy using a headshot, this is done using a on screen prompt so timing is everything.>>

As the game progresses there are plenty of weapons and equipment for Lara to get her hands on, these range from shotguns, pistols and submachine guns to grappling hooks and all other sorts of collectables. Lara is rewarded throughout the game for finding the various artifacts and relics which are spread throughout the levels, the type of rewards vary from things like concept art to different outfits, although this is just a few examples.>>

Graphically Tomb Raider: Anniversary does not disappoint, Lara looks very sharp and the environments look as fantastic as ever, also when the action heats up the screen doesn’t seem to suffer from any of the usual problems associated with the PSP such as blurring etc.

If there is one problem that I have with the game it is the camera, because the PSP lacks a second analog stick there is no way to alter the camera to get a better view of the action, perhaps it would have been good to include camera control somehow, but you can’t have everything I guess.>>

Overall Tomb Raider: Anniversary is a very enjoyable game, the graphics are great and the puzzles are as challenging as ever, sure it may be quite easy to gun down the wolves and various other enemies that will cross your path, but if you want an adventure game on your PSP then this is certainly a game worth having.>>
