BEN 10: PROTECTOR OF THE EARTH

Posted by Dan Pearson on Dec 4, 2007 14:40 (Dec 4, 2007 14:40)

One of the harsh realities of life is that as you get older, you start to miss all of your favourite shows which are on during the day, and it’s all because of work.

One of the shows I normally get a look at on my days off and enjoy watching is Ben 10, so the fact that there is now a game of the program on PSP and PS2 does interest me.

For those of you who don’t know, Ben 10 is a cartoon told around the exploits of a young kid called Ben Tennyson and a device called the Omnitrix that allows him change into any one of a group of 10 aliens. Every week the show will have a group of baddies who try and take the Omnitrix off Ben and use its powers to destroy the world.

The PSP game is straight from the shows, Vilgax, Kevin 11 and the Forever Knights are trying to capture the creator of the Omnitrix and it’s up to Ben and his aliens to stop them.

Ben 10 is basically a 3D beat em up, you control Ben with the thumb pad, square and triangle for attacks and use abilities with circle. The main part of the game is just beating up bad guys when they come on screen walk a bit farther and then take on a large boss battle, there are occasional platform areas and also puzzles that you need to change to aliens to overcome. >

You start with a couple of aliens, Four Arms who is more muscle to smash the baddies with and Heat Blast, as you progress you will open more areas and find more aliens to use, you can even go back to previously complete levels and get to unreachable areas with your new powers. The alien’s powers are only usable for a short period of time so tactics do come into play, as you don’t want to be left as Ben when the Omnitrix is charging and you are surrounded by baddies.

The game looks really good, there are crisp animations for each character and they represent the shows look perfectly, in fact it’s like having the TV Show in your pocket. The sound represents the show well and fits in perfectly with the rest of the action.

Ben 10: Protector of the Earth is quite an easy game, so it won’t last seasoned gamers too long, it is probably much better suited for the younger people who are fans of the show itself.
