Well here is a novel approach, just as the hype towards your new game is reaching fever pitch, release a Live game that helps build your main character. The thinking behind this does seem good, but does it work in practice? Of course you can’t really give too much away on your new game, especially one steeped in mystery and excitement like Fable II, so rather than spoil the game we have been given a series of pub gambling spin-offs to earn some cash and get some new items for the main game.
These games are purely games of luck. The only skill required is to know when to stop betting and cash in. Other than that you will be pressing the A button over and over again, watching your purse dwindle away to nothing. In most of the games you will lose money, but on the first one you will haemorrhage it.
Fortunes Tower is a card based game, with 4 sets of number 1-7 (these can change depending on what table you play) and 4 hero cards. The first Gate card is laid face down and then two others are placed face up on top, the total of that line is the dealers offer to pay out, you can then take the cash or gamble, the next deal is three cards, then four, making a pyramid shape. As soon as you have a card of the same number touching the line above its game over and you lose your stake, you do however have a life thanks to the Gate card, get two numbers touching and this will come into play giving you a blind lifeline. The Hero cards also come in handy, if they are played on a line with 2 numbers touching they will cancel out, allowing you to play on and hopefully win big bucks.
Keystone is more like roulette, you have an arch of stones and three dice, the two outer and the two middle stones support the arch, you roll the dice and remove the stone that is the sum of the dice, take out the vital Keystones and its game over. The roulette part is that you can bid on what stone will be removed, giving different odds for each stone, you can also play safe, for example, betting on all reds, or rolling a pair with the dice. This is the most fun game as they tend to last a bit longer and your cash flow lasts longer. The last game and possibly the most boring is Spinnerbox. Here you have a box with spinners on it, you put on a bet and turn the spinners, if they stop with matching symbols you earn cash, then you adjust the bet if necessary and spin again, in reality its just hitting the A button, a bit like a one armed bandit. What box you choose will determine how many spinners you can use, thus increasing your chances of winning cash. Each of the table games also has a tournament to play through, if you rank on these you can win a large pot of cash, also depending on what game you play you can also win an item for your hero in the main Fable II game. These prizes range from a dog trick book, cutlass, tattoos and a pistol.
The idea of joining a Live and retail game together is a great one and I really would like to see more game do this, at the moment, without playing Fable II I have no idea if this supplements the main game well, as a standalone game though I found it very boring.
