Last year we had Boogie from EA, a game in which you sang and danced your way to intergalactic stardom, now EA have released Boogie SuperStar, and this time its aspirations are a lot more local.
Boogie SuperStar is presented just like a TV show, a kind of X Factor crossed Strictly Come Dancing. You have an annoying host who thinks he is way funnier then he is and a group of three judge’s who can be kind, but also brutal when required. You start by selecting your avatar, straight from the off you notice this game is aimed more at the female market as there are 6 characters to choose from, only of which are male. Once selected you can then alter your image with different clothes and colour schemes, after a short tutorial on how to move the Wii-mote your off to the main show. There are three rounds in each game, usually a solo dance, duet dance and a singing round and you can have up to four players join in all together. The better you do in each round the more coins you earn, earn enough and you can start buying more songs, dance moves, clothes and also difficulties.

There are four dance styles to learn, basic, pop, electro dance and RnB/Rap. Each song has an icon to indicate what dances you will be expected to perform. Once the song has started you have a beat bar in the middle of the screen, this will bounce from one dot to the other, if its green your spot on and start earning combo’s, if it has an up arrow you need to speed up and a down arrow means slow down. The move icon on the screen will tell you what is required, there are loads of these including a scroll shape which means you need to do a hand roll, a finger pointing means point out and then left or right to the beat. If you go out of time or forget what the move is a helpful character will appear on the side of the screen showing you what to do so you only lose a few points.
The singing is exactly the same as Rock Band, you have the lyrics scroll along the bottom with a pitch bar at the top, hit it right and they go green, miss and its red and you don’t earn as many points. There are 42 songs to sing and unlock, most of them recent pop hits but they are all covers though most of them are spot on and you should not notice the difference too much. Some of the songs included in the game are Toxic, Angel, Don’t Stop The Music and He Said She Said. Now I don’t know most of the songs on the track list but I can assure you any young girl around 16 will know every one word for word.
This is an amazing improvement on Boogie from last year, it offers loads more songs and it also seems to connect more with the sort of people who will be purchasing games like this for the Wii. A perfect game to sing alone to in the bedroom or for a girls night-in in the living room.

Sound I think its the Sim type language that characters use during the game so pretty annoying. All of the songs are covers but they are still brilliant efforts. |

Overall The perfect contender to the PS2 Singstar games, offering a little extra in the dancing. A really solid game that is fun to play. Mainly aimed at younger girls than the wider audience Singstar appeals too. |
