Siren Blood Curse is a game that sneaked onto the Playstation Store when no one was looking, however it must have done something right because now it is being released on Blu-Ray disc and to celebrate the fact we are now bringing you our review.
The game is split into twelve episodes and within each of the twelve episodes there are numerous chapters, the number of which depends on what episode you are playing. Should you download the game you will purchase and download three episodes at a time which seems a decent idea to me because the way the game is told once you finish one episode you can’t wait to find out what happens next (which is the same effect TV program Lost has on me), therefore buying the game on disc is probably the better option unless you want to sit looking at a download screen all day.
![]() The main plot to the game is that seven characters have became lost in Hanuda, the reason this is bad news for them is that the residents of this place are all part of a religious cult, who in the process of trying to resurrect a demon have become Shibito, which I guess is just a Japanese word for Zombies, throughout the game you will be tasked with sneaking by these monsters in order to escape this horrible land, which is easier than it sounds.
Characters are helped in their escape by some of the abilities that they possess, some of them can Sight Jack, this basically allows them to see the world through the eyes of others, allowing them to look through the eyes of the Shibito to see where they are and what they are looking at, this ability also comes in handy when trying to escape, for example at one point in an early episode you need to follow a lady in order to flee, at this point you jack her sight as she runs ahead, this then allows you to keep track of her while also seeing what monsters lie ahead, all while keeping your distance. When you use Sight Jacking the screen splits in two, this allows for you to keep track of what’s going on elsewhere while you keep on moving. Selecting which enemy you want to jack is also simple, a press of the left trigger starts the process and then you can just cycle through each of the enemies using the shoulder buttons, once you get the one you want you can then simply press the square button to lock on.
While most of the game will be spent running from or sneaking past the enemy, on the odd occasion you will also be able to acquire weapons such as a gun or metal pole, not all characters can use weapons but those who can at least have a better chance to escape the clutches of the Shibito. As well as weapons characters can sometime use other means to stop the Shibito too, at one point when trying to escape my character had to plant a trap behind one of these Zombie’s, then to get it’s attention I had to yell out, this caused it to run towards me which in turn saw it caught in the trap, though be careful as while I was admiring my handy work the Zombie escaped, just thought I would pass that handy lesson on to you just in case you do the same.
When you complete chapters the game fills your archive up with all manner of documents and videos which give more information on the characters you are using, the archives can be accessed through the main menu. The more you play the game the more you will unlock, although playing through just once may not unlock everything.
![]() It has to be said that Siren, Blood, Curse is one scary game, turn the lights out, turn up the sound and prepare to be scared out of your wits as the controller starts to rumble and the heartbeat of your character gets louder as the Shibito approach you. There is no doubt that this is the scariest and most atmospheric game on the PS3 so far.
As far as the presentation goes I for one was very impressed, the characters all look fantastic and the Shibito are very frightening individuals, the environments are also great to look at, and since most of your time will be spent looking at these run down, barley lit backgrounds as you run, looking for somewhere to hide this is most certainly a good thing.
Siren, Blood, Curse is one horror game that I didn’t know much about before, but now that I have witnessed it for myself I am totally converted. Good job on bringing this to disc Sony and bring on the sequel, that’s what I say.
