Bored playing with the old-fashioned wooden drumsticks, then you will be happy to know that The Ant Commandos have now released their new Illuminated Drumsticks (which come in both Blue and Red) and we have a set to check out.

The Illuminated drumsticks cost around $19.99 which isn’t too bad, but you have to wonder if this is the sort of gimmick that will catch on. So what do you get for your cash, well you get the sticks obviously which are roughly the same length as the original Rock Band Drumsticks, although they are slightly thicker at the ends thanks to the durable tips, which are covered in silicon to reduce noise and this is obviously a good thing.  Apart from the noise reduction, (which is only slightly noticeable it has to be said) there doesn’t seem to be any real difference when playing, they give off the same sound as any other stick and any vibration when hitting the pads is practically negated.

The sticks are also very comfortable to hold, even after a few hours playing there was no discomfort in my hands. The only flaw with the sticks may be if you were sitting in a darkened room playing the game, then the light may distract your attention from the screen as at certain points in some of the songs it can get very bright. The Illuminated Drumsticks use 2 standard AAA batteries and these should last a few months before you need to change them.

There is no doubt that the Illuminated Drumsticks are a gimmick, if you play with friends a lot and have an audience then they may be worth getting to add to the feel of the show, otherwise though I fail to really see the point.
