COD 4 - Hands On
Posted by wotta, on 24/09/2007 Jan 1, 1970 00:00

As we mentioned yesterday, on Saturday we had the opportunity to attend The Gathering 07, a gaming event laid on by Microsoft for XCN sites throughout Europe, one of the games we had the opportunity to try out was the fantastic Call of Duty 4, so prepare for our thoughts.

Call of Duty 4 is perhaps one of the most highly anticipated games of the year, having played the Multiplayer beta and being very impressed, you can imagine our excitement to get hands on with the single player mode. The level that we got to play was called The Bog, straight away you are dropped directly  into the middle of a battle, with bullets flying through the air wherever you look, the details in the buildings (or what’s left of them) left us very impressed indeed, the only thing that seems to light up the air is the burning wreckage which is spread out over a vast area.

This level is fraught with danger in every corner, the enemies are all well hidden and need to be blasted out of their positions with grenades before you will even get near the first building that you need to infiltrate. Once you have managed to get into the building you will find yourself needing to switch on your night vision goggles in order to take out your targets, this is done by clicking on the D-Pad, everything then turns green leaving only your lazersight to stand out, it really is a very impressive feature.

The other great thing about the game is that you are not alone, the other soldiers that are by your side act very intelligently and help clear the path to enable you to get to your destination, but it’s not only the good guys who know what they are doing, the enemies also react to situations very well and will do thier best to find cover when they are in trouble. Although the AI is a big asset perhaps one of the best thing about the game though are the controls, they really compliment the game perfectly and by making Call of Duty 4 such an easy game to pick up and play, this could help it appeal to the masses.

Call of Duty 4 looks truly amazing and from what we saw there were no glitches whatsoever, this could be the game that everyone is talking about come November, it is certainly already in contention for our game of the year even at this early stage.

Call of Duty 4 is released in November.
