It has been revealed by CVG that Ghostbusters the game is currently be made by developers Terminal Reality and due is to be published by Vivendi. The official videogame is a revival of the ghost-busting classic that hit the cinema in the 1980s. It’s billed as a third-person action game in which you team up with Ghostbusters Ray Stantz and Egon Spengler and, well, catch those pesky ghosts.
Action is set in 1991, two years after the events of Ghostbusters II, and both Dan Ackroyd (Stantz) and Harold Ramis (Spengler) are contributing to the game’s story. Both are also reprising their film roles in the game, which will offer a combination of action, scares and humour.
According to first details in PSW magazine, you’ll be able to wreak loads of destruction with the iconic proton packs - just like in the movies - when capturing ghosts thanks to Terminal Reality’s technology.
"We’re trying to deliver a cinematic experience in which you get to be part of a Ghostbusters story", creative director Drew Haworth said.
It’s also said that proton packs will be upgradeable - freeze beams being one example provided - and that on top of Ghostbusters’s trademark weapon against the spirits you’ll get your hands on additional firepower such as shotguns and proton torpedoes.
Vivendi’s Ghostbusters game has so far been confirmed for PS2 and PS3 (and Xbox 360, PC and Wii).
